MALLETTE'S CAMP MURAL
Dear Friends,
I will be one of the many individuals participating in Saturday's art extravaganza in the Camp Washington neighborhood. The exterior of the peach colored building at 2868 Colerain Ave is covered in art. I just completed my contribution, an 18 x 33 ft mural, my first with spray paint. Drop by 12:00-8:00 pm at your convenience. If you want to see me, I'll be there 4:00-6:00 pm.
Best,
Rick

"BLACK WALL/WHITE WALL"
Enjoy these images from my most recent exhibition "Black Wall / White Wall" ( two improvised site-specific wall drawings) at the Continuum Gallery of the University Museum at the Southern Illinois University. I began with chalk (the kind used in school) on the black wall, which is a new medium for me. On the opposite wall, I revisited an old favorite, the same medium of my very first wall drawing in 1994, India Ink with Stroke Brush on white wall. I worked over six days, ending the week with an Opening Reception on Fri. Aug.24th. The exhibition continues through Oct.27th after which time the walls will be painted over.

BLACK WALL / WHITE WALL
(Two Improvised Site-Specific Wall Drawings)
By Rick Mallette
ABOUT THE WORK
I specialize in wall drawings (including interactive pieces), paintings (on canvas, wood, postcards and photomurals), hand-cut mylar, traditional drawings and digital drawings (laptop, smart phone, gif animations and virtual reality).
I work quickly with no preconceptions, searching for imagery in the medium, which surprises me both formally and conceptually, with an ear to the metaphorical possibilities in abstracting the human head and figure.
I have produced dozens of improvised site-specific wall drawings since my first in 1994. The two murals in this exhibition were likewise created spontaneously, here on the walls, in six days, and will exist until they’re painted over by museum staff in preparation for the next exhibition.
